Core Idea: Successful people know how to use the power of relationships.
Keith Ferrazzi is one of the rare individuals to discover the essential formula for making his way to the top through a powerful, balanced combination of marketing acumen and networking savvy. Both Forbes and Inc Magazines have designated him one of the world’s most “connected” individuals. Now, as Founder & CEO of Ferrazzi Greenlight, he provides market leaders with advanced strategic consulting and training services to increase company sales, and enhance personal careers.
Keith Ferrazzi shares with you proven principles on how to reach out to others and build genuine relationships based on the spirit of generosity. Learn how to look for mentors, avoid invisibility, handle rejection and other tips and techniques that can propel you towards success both in your life and your career.
Keith Ferrazzi was born into a working class family. In fact, he was the son of a steelworker and a cleaning lady. Ferrazzi, however, did not allow these limitations to stop him from getting a scholarship at Yale and an MBA at Harvard.
As a young lad, Ferrazzi used to caddie at the local country club. There, he met the rich and powerful people who lived in a nearby town. It was there that Ferrazzi realized that wealthy people helped one another. Ferrazi learned that knowing the right people for the right reasons and utilizing the power of these relationships can get you to become a member of the “club.”
The best way to build and maintain meaningful relationships is to give more than you get. When you connect with people, make sure that you share your knowledge, resources, time, energy, friends, and associates. Always provide value to others and you will increase your own.
The secret to success is generosity. You must, however, be willing to accept generosity and sometimes, go out and ask for it. Remember that connecting is a continuous process of giving and receiving.
Stop keeping score. Remember that relationships get stronger with trust. You can’t get people to trust you by asking what they can do for you. Instead, find out what you can do for them.
Remember that every day brings in new opportunities to build relationships with other people. Focus on your immediate network such as family, existing friends and old acquaintances. They might be able to introduce you to people who can help you meet your goals.
